Commentary

And when it was as if it was said: What is this niche? He answered clearly to this question: "In houses" meaning in the walls of houses. This indicates that what is meant by the niche is the type, not the singular. In its singularity and the singularity of the sources of light, there is an indication of its great honor. "Allah has permitted" meaning He has enabled with His majesty, so He has allowed, encouraged, and made it obligatory "that it be raised" physically in the building, and meaningfully by being sincere for good deeds, from every raiser that He has permitted, glorified and exalted is He, in that. So, when a person enters it, he should seek refuge from the enemy with what was narrated by Abu Dawood from Abdullah ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with them, "from the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, that he used to say when he entered the mosque: 'I seek refuge with Allah, the Most Great, and with His Noble Face, and His Eternal Sovereignty, from the accursed devil.'" Then, 'Uqbah ibn Muslim said: When he said that, the devil would say: 'He is protected from me for the rest of the day.'

( p-278 ) "And it is mentioned" from every one who remembers, that He has permitted, glorified and exalted is He, "in it is His name" meaning a pure remembrance free from any impurity, and sincere without any deceit. "He glorifies" meaning he prays and exalts "for Him" meaning specifically "in it in the early morning" meaning at dawn, with the Fajr prayer, "and the evenings" meaning at dusk, with the remaining prayers. So they open their deeds and conclude them with His remembrance, to be protected in what is between that and to be blessed in what they engage in. And the plural of 'asr is gathered to confirm that what is meant are Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha; Al-Baghawi said: Because the name of 'asr encompasses them.
