Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, completed these verses regarding the innocence of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, and their introductions and conclusions, He said, referring to His saying at the beginning, "And We have sent down in it clear verses that perhaps you may remember" [An-Nur: 1]. "And indeed, We have sent down" means with what We have of greatness, as an encouragement for you and a warning. "To you" means so that you may take admonition. "Clear verses" detail the truth from falsehood, clarified by transmission and reason, such that due to the intensity of their clarity, they show to those who reflect upon them the paths of righteousness, as We have clarified that for those who contemplate it in the innocence of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, and what precedes it and follows it, which is for your righteousness in religion and this world. "And a parable" means a likeness to your conditions. "From those who have passed before you" means from their conditions with what Allah has sent down to them in the Torah regarding the conditions of mixing, adultery, and slandering the innocent, like Yusuf and Maryam, peace be upon them, and their innocence, as I have previously mentioned much of it in Surah Al-Ma'idah and others, which has become in the beauty of its composition in this book, and the excellence of its weaving for those of understanding, like the well-known parables and the revolving spheres. "And a reminder for the pious" with what is in it of rulings and the distinctions indicating the causes that remind of what brings one closer to Allah, and illuminates the heart, and necessitates love and affection, and removes the heat of the chest.
