Commentary
And when it became apparent that their taking and delaying was equally possible, and they would say and do what one could not endure except with the help of Allah, it was as if he said: So what should I do regarding what you know of their matter? Then he said, commanding him to treat them: "Repel [evil]". And he emphasized the matter with the relative clause due to what is in it of the enticing implication for clarification. Then with the comparative form, he said: "with that which is best", meaning from words and actions, with forgiveness and diplomacy, [against] the evil. Then he alleviated for him what he finds of its burden by saying: "We know better", meaning than any knowledgeable person, "what they describe" regarding you and us. If We had willed, We would have prevented them from it or hastened them with punishment, and no one is more protective than Us, so be patient as the resolute ones among the messengers were patient.
