Commentary
Then he alerted him to the increase in supplication by repeating the call with the quality of goodness, in worship and humility, and in submission and meekness. This indicates that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has the right to do as He wills. Therefore, it is appropriate for His closest creation to be extremely cautious of Him. He said: "My Lord, do not make me" by Your goodness towards me and Your favor upon me among them. This was the original intent, but he expressed the description to generalize the call and to link the ruling to the description. He said: "among the wrongdoing people," meaning those whose deeds are the deeds of one who walks in darkness. Thus, they are in places other than their own, let alone that I be one of them. For it is near that punishment will be specific to them and encompass those who are near them due to the severity of wrongdoing and the evil outcome of it.
