Commentary
And when they denied the resurrection with this confirmed denial, and they negated it with this definite negation, He commanded him to establish them with things they are already acknowledging and are familiar with. It is necessary for them, by accepting these, to acknowledge the resurrection without a doubt. So He said: 'Say,' meaning in response to their denial of the resurrection, obligating them: 'To whom belongs the earth,' meaning in its vastness and the multitude of its wonders, 'and whoever is in it,' regarding their multitude and diversity. 'If you know,' meaning if you are capable of knowledge, and it is as if it is a reminder to them that they have denied something that no rational person would deny.
