Commentary

And when this was one of the great trusts, he followed it with its generality and said: "And those who are to their trusts..." meaning in private parts and otherwise. Whether it is between them and Allah, such as prayer and fasting and others, or in the inner meanings like sincerity and truthfulness, or between them and creation, like deposits and goods. So it is upon the servant to fulfill all of them - this is what al-Razi said. And when the covenant is the greatest trust, he followed it to alert to its greatness and said: "And their covenant they are guardians of," meaning they are those who preserve it by fulfilling, guarding, and rectifying.
