And when Allah, the Most High, invalidated their faces of objection against the Messenger and the one sent from the perspective of their ignorance once, and from the perspective of their claim of invalidity another time, He alerted them to another aspect that they are the most knowledgeable of people regarding its invalidity, to establish the claim of its truth when the faces of the objections are removed. He said, denying: ﴿Or do you ask them﴾ meaning about what you have brought them ﴿as a payment﴾. Al-Baghawi said: as a reward and compensation. Ibn Maktum said in combining between the ambiguous and the definitive: and the kharj and the kharaj is something that the people give out in the year from their wealth in a known amount, and the kharaj is the produce of the servant and the maid.
