Commentary
And when the perfect man is one who knows the men by the truth, he began with what he indicated, then followed it with one who introduces the thing for familiarity with it, then with one who introduces the truth by the men. He said: ﴿Or did they not recognize their Messenger﴾, meaning the one who came to them with this saying, which there is no saying like it, and they know his lineage, his truthfulness, and his trustworthiness, and what they missed from him of the heights of morals, to the extent that they do not find in him - when the truths are established - any deficiency to mention, nor any flaw to imagine, as indicated by the authentic hadiths, including the hadith of Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, may Allah be pleased with him, which is in the beginning of Sahih al-Bukhari, in the question of Heraclius, the king of the Romans, to him about his affair ﷺ. ﴿So they﴾, meaning it resulted from their ignorance of him that they ﴿deny him﴾, meaning his self or the saying that he brought. ﴿They are deniers﴾, so they would be among those who are ignorant of the truth due to their ignorance of the state of the one who brought it. Thus, they did not attain anything from the ranks of the people, neither the rank of the scholars who critique, nor the rank of the ignorant who imitate. In this is the utmost reproach for them due to their ignorance and their stubbornness, as they know that he is the most truthful of creation and the highest among them in every beautiful meaning, then they deny him.
