Commentary
﴿So We sent﴾ meaning that We followed up Our creation for them, and it resulted in Our sending.
And when the aim was to convey in consolation, the action was indicated with 'in' to show that He encompassed them with the conveying just as the container encompasses what is in it. He did not leave one of them except that he conveyed regarding his matter, so He said: ﴿A Messenger from them﴾. The analogy would necessitate their hastening to follow him due to their knowledge of what befell those before them because of their denial, and due to their knowledge of the utmost certainty that the Prophet is one of them, by what We have adorned him with of virtues, and because his honor is their honor, and his calling them to what is undeniably good for any rational being, and what no fair-minded person would reject. Then He clarified what He sent him with by saying: ﴿Worship Allah﴾ meaning alone, for there is no equal to Him, and for this reason His name has been preserved, as there is no one comparable to Him. Then He justified that by saying: ﴿What is wrong with you﴾ and indicated the totality with His saying: ﴿Of a god other than Him﴾.
And when the punishments had already passed before them upon the deniers, and they had settled upon the wrongdoers, it resulted from their actions that they denied the lack of concern in not taking precautions against similar fates. He said: ﴿Do you not fear﴾ meaning do you not make for yourselves a protection from what you should fear, so that you establish a barrier between you and the wrath of Allah.
