Commentary
And when He mentioned, glorified and exalted is He, the origin of the first human, which is the clay that He honored him with for the gathering of the two purities, and He expressed it by creation due to what is in it of mixture. This is because creation - as has been mentioned by al-Harali in the beginning of Al-Baqarah - is the estimation of the mixtures of what is intended to be manifested after blending and composition into a form. Although it is not from what follows the wisdom of causation that we are accustomed to, that a human being is from clay, He followed it, glorified and exalted is He, with its second origin, which is the purest of the two purities: the water from which every living thing comes, expressing it by making, because it is also a manifestation of a cause and formation. And what is from clay is what results from water and is drawn from it, and it is simple with no mixture in it, so there is no creation for it. And He expressed it with a tool of delay because making clay into water is very unlikely. So He said: 'Then We made it' meaning the clay or this type that is drawn from the created from clay by developing its individuals with a marvelous creation and delicate arrangement: 'a drop' meaning a flowing water with no trace of clay in it: 'in a resting place' meaning from the solid and the ribs, then the womb, a source that was made a name for the place: 'secure' meaning preventing from corrupting things.
