Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned Paradise, which includes the mention of resurrection, He proved His ability to do so by the beginning of creation for mankind. Then, He referred to what is greater than it among the worlds, and what is in both of them from benefits. So when this was established, He began to threaten those who were arrogant about it by destroying the past nations. He started with the story of Noah, blessings and peace be upon him, because he was the first, and because his salvation was in the ark, which is sealed by the verse that precedes it. In that, there is a reminder of the blessing of salvation, for all are from his offspring. So when the complete ability to choose was established by the threat of destroying the past nations, He frightened the Arabs with a similar punishment. When the warning of retribution was complete, He began to invoke gratitude for the blessings by distinguishing mankind over all other animals and similar matters. Then He returned to the signs of ability regarding resurrection by affirming His oneness and being free from partners and offspring, and so on. Then He mentioned at the beginning of the next verse what He mentioned here about preserving the private parts. He mentioned the ruling on whoever does not preserve his private part and followed it with what is appropriate from its consequences.
And when the decree was: 'Indeed, We have decreed the resurrection of all the servants after death, a group of them to bliss and a group to hellfire,' for We are able to bring you back even if you are torn apart and become dust, for it is dust that has an origin in life, just as We were able to begin, for We created your father Adam from the dust of the earth before there was an origin for dust in life. He turned to his saying, indicating this decree and proving resurrection, manifesting it in the station of greatness, affirming for them the denial of resurrection the status of deniers: 'And certainly We created man' meaning this type that you see now, aware of himself, pleased with his actions and senses, 'from a extract' meaning something small, as indicated by the forms like the nail clippings and the refuse, we extracted it and purified it gently, so it was at the end of moderation, which is the clay of Adam, blessings and peace be upon him. He extracted it - with the gentleness that He has - 'from clay' meaning the type of clay of the earth. Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawood, and Tirmidhi narrated from Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, who said: 'Indeed, Allah created Adam from a handful that He took from all the earth, so the children of Adam came according to the earth. Among them are the red, the white, the black, and those in between, and the good and the bad, and those in between.'
