And when the winner - who is the victorious - is the one who does not experience misery in that matter in which he has succeeded, and he has indicated, glorified and exalted is He, by the word of purpose and what is similar to it, that He has extended for the people of misery in this world in terms of lifespans and provisions until they have belittled the worship of the happy ones. It may be said that their enemies have succeeded by mocking them and having superiority over them in the state of this world. And glorified and exalted is He, has previously stated what refutes that by informing that He has made them dwell in the Fire and turned away from them and rebuked them from His words. The most fortunate of the people of this world, when dipped in the Fire even once, if asked about his bliss, he would say: 'I have never seen any bliss at all.' This serves as a means to reprimand the wretched because of their wasting of their days and their being occupied with them. The listener longs to know whether he will ask them about the bliss they had in this world, which was worthy of their gratitude, yet they responded to it with disbelief and mockery of His allies. So, that longing is answered by making them ignorant and regretful and alerting them to the answer that their success in this world - for its scarcity which is less than a drop in the side of a sea - is nonexistence, by His saying: 'He said' in lamentation over what they wasted of easy worship that would have inherited them an everlasting happiness. And they committed a little pleasure that resulted in them a never-ending misery - this is according to the reading of the congregation. And glorified is He, clarified by the reading of Ibn Kathir, Hamzah, and Al-Kisai that the saying by means of some of His servants whom He appointed for their torment is a turning away from them, fulfilling what He indicated by saying: 'And do not speak to Me' [Al-Mu'minun: 108]. He said: 'Say,' meaning, O one whom We have appointed for vengeance against those whom We intended, meaning, for those who have been deceived by the worldly life regarding what they see of its short duration and its play with its people, so they disbelieved in Us and mocked Our servants: 'How long did you remain on earth?' regarding that state which you considered a success: 'A number of years' in which you were victorious and over your enemies you were dominant. And perhaps He expressed by what indicates the drought, referring to the fact that the days of this world are narrow and constricted, even if there is abundance in them, especially for the disbelievers due to their disbelief and their wickedness and their plotting which has led them to the tightest of constrictions and the worst of living.
