Commentary
Those who will inherit Paradise, which is the highest part of Paradise. It is originally the great, vast garden that gathers the beauties of plants and trees, such as grapes and whatever resembles them from all that can be found in gardens and valleys that contain various types of vegetation. They will obtain from it after the resurrection what Allah has prepared for them therein of the abodes, and what He had prepared for the disbelievers had they believed or had not exited with the exit of their parents from Paradise. They are specifically in it, meaning not in other than it, and they will remain therein forever. These verses encompass all that has been mentioned in the description of the believers. Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad and Al-Tirmidhi in his Tafsir from his collection on the authority of Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: 'When revelation descended upon the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, it could be heard near his face like the buzzing of bees. One day, it descended upon him, and we remained for an hour. He faced the Qibla and raised his hands, saying: O Allah, increase us and do not decrease us, honor us and do not dishonor us, give us and do not deprive us, prefer us and do not prefer others over us, and be pleased with us and make us pleased. Then he said: Ten verses have been revealed to me, whoever establishes them will enter Paradise.' Then he recited: 'Certainly the believers have succeeded' [Al-Mu'minun: 1] until he completed the ten.' And Al-Nasa'i narrated it in the chapter on prayer and said: It is weak; no one is known to have narrated it other than Yunus ibn Salim, and we do not know Yunus. Abu Hayyan attributed the end of the hadith to Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak.
Imam Abu Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr said: He elaborated in the beginning of it what is beautiful in His saying, the Most High: "O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good" [Al-Hajj: 77]. He informed about what is necessary for the one who bows and prostrates to adhere to from humility. Due to the connection of the two sayings, the first is a command and the second is a praise and a definition of what completes the state. It is as if when He commanded the believers and encouraged them with success as a reward for their obedience, it was a reason for their asking about the details of what He commanded regarding worship and the good deeds by which their success is completed. It was said to him: The successful one is the one who adheres to such and such, and he mentioned seven types of worship that are the foundations for what is beyond them and are the follow-ups to all obligations. He has elaborated on the ruling of each act of worship from them and what is related to it in the Book and the Sunnah. Since maintaining prayer is contrary to committing sins altogether, "Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing" [Al-Ankabut: 45], therefore, these acts of worship were concluded with it after the indication of the place of prayer in this worship by mentioning humility in it first. This was followed by these seven types with the mention of seven stages in which a person undergoes before his emergence into the world. He, the Most High, said: "And certainly We created man from a drop of fluid" [Al-Mu'minun: 12] - until His saying: "Then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators" [Al-Mu'minun: 14]. It is as if it was said to him: Your creation and your emergence into the world were completed after these seven transformations. You only free yourself from your worldly life by adhering to these seven acts of worship. Following these verses is His saying, the Most High: "And We have certainly created above you seven pathways" [Al-Mu'minun: 17]. Perhaps this is what confirms this consideration and is relevant to its context - and Allah knows best. Just as the beginning of this surah explains what was summarized in the verses before it, so too the verses after are detailed for what was summarized in His saying, the Most High: "O mankind, if you are in doubt about the resurrection, then indeed We created you from dust, then from a drop" [Al-Hajj: 5]. This is sufficient in the connection of the two surahs, and Allah, glorified and exalted is He, is the One sought for help - it has ended.
