Commentary
And when the evidence was established that what they called upon could not be anything of it as a deity, after He informed that He had not sent down to them a proof for their worship of Him, and He concluded with what belongs to Him, glorified and exalted is He, from the attributes of power and might, after He affirmed that He has all sovereignty, He followed that with His evidence which the vastness of sovereignty and the strength of authority necessitate, which is the sending down of proofs upon the tongues of the messengers with His commands and prohibitions, which require the sincerity of worship to Him and necessitate the punishment of the one who neglects it. So He said: "Allah," meaning the Most High King, "chooses," meaning He selects and purifies, "from the angels messengers" to what is appropriate for sending in terms of punishment and mercy. No one can prevent them from what they were sent for, and there is no doubt that the strength of the messenger is from the strength of the One who sent him. "And from the people" also messengers who come from Allah with what they legislate for His servants, so that the proof of transmission may be established against them, combined with the authority of reason. Whoever opposes them will lose, even if his enticement is prolonged. And since that can only be through knowledge, He said: "Indeed, Allah," meaning the One who has majesty and beauty, "is Hearing," meaning of what can be heard from the messenger and others, "Seeing," meaning All-Seeing, knowing all that can logically be seen and known, unlike their idols.
