Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, informed that doubt remains a condition for them due to what the devil casts of his doubts into their hearts that are receptive to that because of the sickness they have and the corruption within them until the coming of the Hour, He followed that with what He mentioned of the detailed wisdoms and the honored, preferred rulings, until He concluded that He alone is the judge on the Hour, warning of the completeness of His knowledge and the comprehensiveness of His power. He said, marveling at those whom admonition does not benefit and for whom the obligatory is not permissible while they impose the impossible, adding to "And they will not cease" [Al-Hajj: 55] "and they worship" meaning in the manner of renewal and continuity "besides Allah" meaning from the lowest rank of the one for whom all proofs have been established regarding His possession of all attributes of perfection, and He is glorified and exalted above any defects. "What He has not sent down with it any authority" meaning a single proof from the proofs.
And when it may be imagined that the lack of sending down the authority does not negate it, He said, removing this illusion: "And they have no knowledge of it" meaning originally "and they" meaning that they have none, but He indicated a reference to the description by which they deserved destruction, saying: "for the wrongdoers" meaning those who placed worship in other than its proper place by committing this great, dangerous matter; and He affirmed the negation and encompassed the negated by establishing the preposition, saying: "from a supporter" meaning who supports them from Allah, not from what they associated with Him nor from others, neither in defending them nor in establishing proof for their doctrines. Thus, He negated that there is anyone who could come with support that reaches the goal by which the supported overcomes the one supported against. As for absolute support, it does not benefit against what has preceded from the doubts of the devil.
