And when he concluded these verses - which grant permission to the oppressed to fight against the oppressors - with the attribute of forbearance, this was an indication of the necessity of pardoning the rights of the servants, as in the Sharia of Jesus, blessings and peace be upon him. He negated this by saying permission to those who openly transgress against those who expelled them from their homes, that they may expel him from his homes and make him taste some of what Allah has promised him of humiliating punishment: ﴿That﴾ meaning the established matter of the attribute of Allah, glorified and exalted is He. ﴿And whoever retaliates﴾ from the servants by (p-79) striking his opponent, for an injury in which he hopes for a good outcome, ﴿with that which was inflicted upon him﴾ meaning he is treated as one who seeks a good outcome. ﴿By it﴾ from any punisher, and he does not exceed to oppression. ﴿Then if he is wronged﴾ meaning from any aggressor, ﴿against him﴾ by returning to his dispute to take his right.

And when what occurs to the one who is wronged by being broken is a return to the beginning of humiliation and disgrace, far removed from being repaired, his promise was confirmed, so he said: ﴿Indeed, Allah will surely aid him﴾ meaning the one who has no equal to Him.

And when he restricted that with equivalence, and it was a hidden matter, it is hardly known, so perhaps transgression occurred by mistake, and he thought there was no assistance for that. Allah, glorified and exalted is He, made it clear that the accountability is only for intentional acts, by His saying; and it may be that the estimation is an encouragement towards pardon after the guarantee of assistance: Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise. And whoever pardons and reconciles has certainly exposed himself to Allah's pardon for his shortcomings, and His forgiveness for his sins. So it is a connection: he mentioned assistance as evidence of might and wisdom, and he mentioned pardon from Him, glorified and exalted is He, as evidence of the removal of pardon from the servant. ﴿Indeed, Allah﴾ meaning the One who encompasses all things with power and knowledge ﴿is Pardoning﴾ meaning of those who took retribution from those who wronged him the first time. ﴿Forgiving﴾ for whoever took retribution from one who transgressed against him.
