And those who disbelieved will not cease to be in doubt. This means that disbelief exists among them and they are sealed upon it. They are in doubt, seeking tranquility in it. This means for the sake of casting what the devil has thrown, or as a beginning from it. Until the Hour comes to them, meaning death or the Resurrection, suddenly, meaning unexpectedly with their death, a sudden demise. Or a punishment of a day that is barren will come to them, in which all their children among them will be killed, and they will have nothing in it of what they hope for in terms of victory or otherwise, just as they strove with their arguments and casting of misguidance in the incapacitation of the verses. So when the veil is lifted from them by the Hour or the punishment that leads to the point of gargling, they will believe like the behavior of animals that see only particulars. This will not benefit them due to the loss of its condition. And it has been removed, by the praise of Allah, from this verse, by what doubts have established, and the illusions of doubts have been exposed, and the misleading trials have been suppressed, from the story of the Gharaniq and what is similar to it, which is exalted above that lofty rank, and the great, secure sanctuary. Nothing of that has been proven correct, as stated by the guardian of the religion, Ibn Kathir, and others. How could it be, when the devil has been prevented from resembling him in dreams, as he said in what was narrated by the two Shaykhs from Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him: 'Whoever sees me in a dream has indeed seen me, for the devil cannot resemble me.' And Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has taken upon Himself the preservation of the wise remembrance with the guardianship of the heavens and others. 'Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will preserve it.' [Al-Hijr: 9] 'Except for one whom He has approved of as a Messenger, for indeed, he drives before him and behind him a guard.' [Al-Jinn: 27] 'So that He may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord.' [Al-Jinn: 28]
