Commentary
And when it has been established, glorified is He, that the misguided misleader has disgrace in this world, and it has been established that He protects those who believe and supports them. He presented the evidential proof for this for those who have a stagnant understanding, constrained by delusion, regarding the oppressive towns whose destruction has been fulfilled. He concluded by denying their blindness to the clear verses. He said, commenting on ﴿And among the people are those who argue﴾ [Al-Hajj: 8], marveling at them and clarifying their blindness: ﴿And they hasten you﴾. It is permissible, and it is better, that this sentence be a state of the doer of ﴿Let them walk﴾ [Al-Hajj: 46], and it would be among what he denied concerning them ﴿with the punishment﴾ that they threaten them with, in disbelief and mockery. The state is that 'Allah will not break' His promise, for there is no equal to Him ﴿His promise﴾, so it must occur. However, what is long for them in time is short for Him. He may fulfill the promise and may delay it after the warning to a day or less or more, because His decree has preceded that it will only occur in it for wisdoms that He manifests to whom He wills among His servants. ﴿And indeed a day﴾, meaning one ﴿with your Lord﴾, meaning the Benefactor towards you by delaying the punishment from them in honor of you ﴿is like a thousand years﴾. And since the intended meaning here is the prolongation, He expressed it with the year as a reminder of it. And since the years may differ, He said: ﴿of what you count﴾, because your days correspond to your delusions, and your times correspond to your affairs. And He is Forbearing, not extending the time, and Able, not fearing loss.
