Commentary
'And they were guided' means by the easiest matter by the guidance of Allah, more than that it could be the close cause of that intellect alone, or with the Messenger, or the Book, or other than that. This is a state of 'those who have believed.' And what follows it is concluded with it so that the interval between the action and its object does not become long, and to ensure that their virtues surround the mention of their entering Paradise, indicating its permanence. 'To the good of speech' means that they have remained in a good state. 'And they were guided' also indicates the ease of guidance for them and for the pious among them. Therefore, the mention of might was not made, and it sufficed to mention praise, so it was said: 'to the path of the Praiseworthy,' who guided them to follow what they are praised for. Thus, they will be praised in the end. Their action was good just as their words were good. They entered the Paradise which is the most noble abode with the best of neighbors, and they adorned themselves with the most noble adornments just as they adorned themselves in this world with the most noble of ways. This is after they attained the most noble mention in this world, in contrast to the state of the disbelievers in committing what has led them to a state from which whenever they wished to exit, they were returned to it, along with what they received of bad mention, by their inclination like animals towards the fleeting with its meanness for its presence, and their turning away from the everlasting with its nobility for its absence.
