And when this is not clear that this return after death, He clarified it by saying: ﴿And forbidden﴾ meaning prohibited and restricted ﴿upon a town﴾ meaning its people ﴿We destroyed﴾ meaning by death by Our greatness ﴿that they do not return﴾ meaning to Us by going under the soil without feeling, but to Us by their death [they returned -] so We have confined them in the Barzakh, enjoying or being punished, with pleasure and torment, without the greater pleasure and torment.
