'So We answered him' with Our greatness, even though he was at an age where there was no movement [with him] and his wife was in a state of barrenness, with no hope of her becoming pregnant. So how could it be, when she had surpassed the age of despair? For this reason, [he expressed] what indicates greatness, saying: 'And We granted him Yahya,' an inheritor, wise, a great prophet. 'And We made his wife righteous,' meaning We made her suitable for every good, exclusively for him, especially for what We bestowed upon him with this gift after she had been barren and old, not suitable for him in any way that others could achieve. Then he resumed the explanation of the goodness of the inherited and the inheritor, and the suitability for childbirth, saying, confirming the encouragement in similar [situations] of theirs, and that it is something one delights in mentioning and admires in its matter: 'Indeed, they were' created in the beginning of what We created them, of a nature of goodness, prepared to be 'they hasten in good deeds,' meaning they exaggerate in hastening them, like one who races another. And it indicated the greatness of their actions with His saying: 'And they call upon Us,' being mindful of Our majesty, greatness, and perfection, 'out of desire' for Our mercy, 'and in fear' of Our might. 'And they were,' meaning by nature and disposition, 'for Us' especially 'humble,' meaning fearful with a great fear that carries them to submission and humility.
