Then We confirmed them by what Our greatness necessitated. And the matter was emphasized by the transference of the action without a preposition, as He said: "the promise," meaning by saving them. And He indicated with the tool of delay that their affliction with them had prolonged, and their patience with them had been long. Then He established His might against them and showed them His greatness. Therefore, He said, causing it to happen: "So We saved them," meaning the messengers, by Our greatness. And because the context is that they were in a state of extreme negligence, which resulted in the profound denial that necessitated varying statements about it, such as magic, dreams, falsehood, and poetry, it necessitated countering it with the truth of His promise, glorified and exalted is He. He expressed it with salvation, which is a cessation from the existence of punishment at the utmost speed. "And whom We will," meaning from their followers, indicating that the cause of salvation is the will, not that the confirmation necessitates it. For He, glorified and exalted is He, is not obligated to anything. "And We destroyed," meaning by what wisdom necessitates, "the transgressors," all of whom we knew that transgression is a necessary description for them that they do not depart from.
