And when he had made the wind subservient to his son Solomon, blessings and peace be upon him, which is stronger than the rest of the elements, he said: "And for Solomon" expressing it with the preposition 'for' because it was under his command for his benefit, and there is no ambiguity in the expression "the wind." Al-Baghawi said: It is a subtle body that cannot be grasped due to its subtlety, and it is perceived by the senses through its movement. Solomon, blessings and peace be upon him, would command wood to be struck for him, and when he was carried upon what he desired of beasts, people, and war instruments, he commanded the storm, and it entered under the wood and carried it until it was stable with him. He commanded the gentle wind to pass with him for a month in the morning and a month in the evening - this is a summary. So the winds were made subservient to him, but since the context here is to indicate the ability to perform strange and tremendous actions, he said: "a storm" meaning a strong wind, this considering its action, and it was described as gentle considering its kindness to them, so they did not find it burdensome. "It runs by His command" when He commands it in the morning and evening, going to where He wants and returning according to what He desires, a sign in a sign.
And when it was known from what has passed in the Qur'an for its bearer who is concerned with understanding its meanings, and knowing the news of those mentioned in it, that he is from the Children of Israel, and that his settlement is in the holy land, it was known that he would carry it to others. And since the carrier to a place might find it difficult to return with the carried, he expressed with the preposition of purpose mentioning the place of settlement as an indication that it carries him away to where he wanted from near and far - it carries him to his settlement for days. He said: "to the land which We have blessed" meaning with Our honor "in it," and it is the Levant. "And We were" meaning eternally and forever with the encompassing greatness "of all things" of this and other matters of it, "Knowing" so We were capable of all things. If it were not for Our pleasure with it, We would have changed it upon him as We changed upon those whose matters We preceded. And this is of the type of "My Lord knows the saying" [Al-Anbiya: 4] as has passed, and the subservience of the wind to him - as it was made subservient to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, during the nights of the confederates. Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Until it would throw them with stones, not surpassing their camp, and Allah defeated them with it, and they were returned in their rage without attaining any good.
And more comprehensive than all that was given to the prophets, blessings be upon them, is that he was given, blessings and peace be upon him, the authority over the upper world which He, glorified and exalted is He, made a flow upon the lower world by penetrating its layers during the Night Journey at times, and by withholding rain when he prayed for seven like the seven of Joseph, and by sending it again as in many hadiths. And along with that, he was given the keys to the treasures of all the earth, which he returned.
