Commentary
And when he established that their deities are in the realm of non-existence, they were devoted to worshiping them instead. He began to rebuke them for that with the highest words of contempt that are only said for what is the utmost in filth, saying: "Uff!" This means disgust and contempt from me. In Al-Ahqaf, what must be brought to mind here is then he specified that with them by saying: "For you and for what you worship." And when their worship was in the form of polytheism, and all ranks were beneath the rank of Him, the Most High, and their idols were in very low ranks, he established the connection and said: "Besides Allah," meaning the supreme King, due to your lowliness and filthiness.
And when the consequence of their actions was the clarity that no rational person would accept, he denied them and reproached them for abandoning thought, indicating that the corruption of what they are upon is recognized by the innate understanding. He said: "Do you not reason?" This means: and you are elders who have experienced the ages and have been tempered by experiences.
