The origin of the oath is the singular letter 'bā', and the 'wāw' is a substitute for it, while the 'tā' is a substitute for the 'wāw'. In it - despite being a substitute - there is an increase for emphasis through astonishment. Al-Asbahani said: It is as if he was astonished by the ease of the plotting against him. And in it, there is also an indication of the return of the causation inwardly. It is as if it is a hint that after he caused them to turn away from its worship outwardly by what he addressed them with, he caused from that secondly inwardly by corrupting it. "I will certainly plot against your idols," he affirmed that it is something that is denied due to its extreme difficulty. And the plotting is the scheming in harm. "Your idols," meaning these that you have devoted yourselves to, forgetting the One who created you and them. That is, "I will surely do to them what will displease you by a form of scheming.

And when his resolve was to carry out the plotting at all times in which their turning away from it occurs in any part that becomes easy for him, he dropped the preposition and said: "After you turn away," meaning you will cause the turning away from it. And he confirmed his intent with his saying: "In retreat." To bring you down from the rational proof for the realization of the truth, since you were not of its people, to the sensory proof for the invalidation of falsehood.
