And when this did not suffice to be a reason for their delusion, he turned away from it, saying in a manifestation of greatness, indicating that their being deceived by Him, glorified and exalted is He, with what He has of signs of majesty, is among the most astonishing of wonders, based on the manner of "there is no protector for them from Him nor any preventer": "Rather, We have granted enjoyment to these," meaning the disbelievers, despite their insignificance, or the turning away from their inability to attain victory. The meaning is that what they are in of protection is indeed from Us for the sake of granting them enjoyment with that which only a deluded one would be changed by. Not from a preventer preventing them, "and their forefathers" before them from victory and others, "until their lifespan became prolonged." Thus, the length of their safety was deceiving for them by Us, so they thought that nothing could overpower them regarding that enjoyment, nor could the garment of blessing be removed from them.

And when He established the proofs and set the arguments that there is no preventer for them from Allah, this resulted in their denial of Him in believing in others. So He said: "Do they not see," meaning they know a knowledge that is in its clarity like sight with the eye, "that We," with what We have of greatness, and He depicted what He was to bring forth of His greatness upon the hands of His allies, saying: "We come to the land," meaning the one whose inhabitants are disbelievers, a coming of dominance over them by empowering Our allies against them. And when the coming is of various types, He clarified it by saying: "We diminish it from its edges," by killing some of them and returning those who remain from their religion to Islam. Thus, they are in loss, and Our allies are in increase.

And when their witnessing of this was time after time decisive that they are the defeated ones, this resulted in the denial of others. So He said: "Are they," meaning specifically, "the victorious ones," while they witness that, or are Our allies?
