Commentary
And when it was established that doubt is only about proximity or distance, the estimation is: but it is a reality of existence. This is because Allah is One, with no partner for Him, and He is near to Allah. This is because everything that He has truly brought into existence is near. He explained this by saying: "Indeed," meaning Allah, glorified and exalted is He, "knows the open." And since the open can occur in actions, He clarified it by saying: "of the saying" from what you openly declare, whether it be of great matters or otherwise. And Allah, glorified and exalted is He, alerted to this because one of the states of the open is that the voices can become very loud to the point where they mix together, and it cannot be distinguished between them. Many of those present do not know what most of the speakers have said. So He informed, glorified is He, that no voice occupies Him from another, nor does anything escape Him from that, even if there are many. "And He knows what you conceal" of what you harbor of disgrace, as He, glorified and exalted is He, said at the beginning: "My Lord knows the saying in the heavens and the earth" [Al-Anbiya: 4]. And from the necessary consequence of that is the recompense for it, which is due to you in terms of hastening and delaying. So you will know how He disappoints your expectations and fulfills what I say. You will conclude that I am truthful regarding it and that I am not a magician, nor a madman, nor a liar, nor a poet. For it is among the most eloquent of threats, for there is no greater threat than that of knowledge.
