And when the message that He arranged for this purpose is the oneness that is essential for the completeness of power, He followed the indication of their delaying faith with a warning to them, saying: "Say"; meaning to everyone to whom you can say: "Indeed, it is only revealed to me" [meaning] from one who does not reveal good except Him, and He is Allah, who has chosen me with this miraculous book: "Indeed, your God is one."

And when the intention was to establish the oneness, [for a God whose divinity is agreed upon by Him and them, He repeated the mention of the God, saying]: "One God"; there is no partner for Him. Nothing has been revealed to me regarding the matter of God except oneness, and your God is only one; nothing has been revealed to me regarding what you claim of partnership other than that. The first is from restricting the attribute to the described, meaning the judgment on the thing, meaning the one who reveals [it] to me is restricted to oneness and does not extend to partnership. The second (p-511) is from restricting the described to the attribute, meaning the God is restricted to unity and does not exceed it to multiplicity, and the addressee of both is the one who believes in partnership, so it is a restriction of the heart.

And when this auditory evidence joined what has passed from the rational proofs regarding oneness, it was necessary to fear the fulfillment of what He has threatened them with, so they may dedicate worship to Allah. He indicated this, instilling fear and desire with His saying: "So are you Muslims?"; meaning are you submissive to Him, casting your keys to Him, abandoning all that you call upon besides Him, so that you may be safe from His punishment and attain His reward. [Thus, in the verse, it is indicated that this oneness can validly be approached through hearing.]}
