Commentary

And when the least that causes discomfort is hearing it, He said: ﴿They do not hear its sound﴾ meaning its intense movement and its loud voice. So how about what is less than that, since the sense is the absolute sound or the subtle part of it, as Al-Baghawi said. If its letters increase, its meaning increases. ﴿And they﴾ meaning those for whom the best has preceded from Us. ﴿In what﴾ And when desire - which is the seeking of the soul for pleasure - can only be intense, it is expressed by the form of intensification to indicate the greatness of what they are in of pleasure. So He said: ﴿Their souls desire﴾ in Paradise ﴿They are abiding﴾ meaning always forever.
