Commentary
And when he mentioned their state and the state of their deities with the utmost wretchedness, the question arose about those who worshiped them from the righteous, whether a prophet or an angel, and others from all those who worshiped Him, glorified and exalted is He, without associating anything with Him. He said, clarifying that they do not intend anything from that in a way that includes them and others from the righteous: "Indeed, those for whom there has preceded [the decree] from Us"; that is, for Us is the greatness that cannot be encompassed. "The best reward"; that is, the judgment of the ultimate promise in goodness in eternity, whether one of them is misguided by the disbelievers who praised him or not. "Those"; that is, the high-ranking ones, "are far removed from it" [meaning Hell].
And when the victory is the absolute removal from it, not being from a specific remover, he said: "Removed" by the mercy of Allah because they excelled in worship and were conscious of Him. And is the reward for good except good? Ibn Kathir said in his tafsir: Abu Bakr ibn Mardawayh narrated to us - Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Sahl told us - Muhammad ibn Hasan al-Anmati told us - Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Ar'arah told us - Yazid ibn [Abi] Hakim that al-Hakam - meaning Ibn Aban - from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr came to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and said: 'Do you claim that Allah has revealed to you this verse: "Indeed, you and what you worship besides Allah are the fuel of Hell; you are to enter it" [Al-Anbiya: 98]? Ibn al-Zubayr said: 'The sun, the moon, the angels, Uzair, and Jesus, son of Mary, have all been worshiped. Are all of these in the fire with our deities?' Then the verse was revealed: "And when the example of the son of Mary was cited, your people turned away in aversion" [Az-Zukhruf: 57] "And they said, 'Are our deities better or is he?' They did not strike that for you except for [the sake of] argument. Rather, they are a contentious people" [Az-Zukhruf: 58]. Then the verse was revealed: "Indeed, those for whom there has preceded [the decree] from Us, the best reward, are far removed from it"." This was narrated by the scholar Abu Abdullah in his book 'The Selected Hadiths.' It has ended. In the Prophetic biography, it is mentioned that when the objection of Ibn al-Zubayr reached the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, he said: "Whoever loves to be worshiped besides Allah is with the one whom he worships; they only worship the devils and those who commanded them to worship him." And Ibn al-Zubayr embraced Islam after that and praised the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him.
