Commentary

And when what was necessary for them due to the acknowledgment of the prophethood of the human beings, from the acknowledgment of the prophethood of their Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, was completed, because he was equal to them in kind and in bringing the miracle, and what he did with them and with their nations as encouragement and intimidation, and he concluded that by destroying the transgressors and erasing their mention except by the mention of humans, he turned to the mention that they had criticized, and he said, responding to one who seemed to say: This is the answer to the criticism of the Messenger, it has been known, so what is the answer to the criticism of the mention? He turned away from their answer due to what had preceded of the indication with the word of disjunction that what they criticized him with does not say it except an insane person, clarifying what they have in it of the envy that they are rejecting, and the blessing that they are denying: "Indeed," meaning, by our might, "We have sent down" with what we have of greatness "to you," O assembly of Quraysh, rather all the Arabs, "a Book" meaning, comprehensive of all the virtues that water does not wash away nor fire burn, "in it is your mention" throughout time with good if you obey, and with evil if you disobey, and by it is your honor over all the nations with the honor of what is in it of the noble morals that you used to boast about and with the honor of your Prophet whom you say lies about him, and you frequently speak ill of him.

And when that was completed in this manner, he indicated that it is necessary for every person of understanding to turn to it and hasten to it. So, his saying, strongly denying them, was very good, indicating that the knowledge of that does not require anything other than pure reason devoid of passion: "Do you not understand?"
