Commentary

And when he finished advising the closest people to him and those most deserving of his advice and guidance, as he was the head of the guides, the listener yearned for what was from others. So, the Exalted One began to mention him by saying: ﴿He said﴾ meaning Musa, peace be upon him, to the head of the people of misguidance, turning away from his brother after accepting his excuse. He made what was attributed to him a reason for his question about the one who led him to it: ﴿So what is your matter﴾ meaning this strange and great affair that led you to what you have done, and informed me the Exalted and All-Knowing [that you -] you have misled them with it ﴿O Samaritan﴾.
