Musa said, thinking that they had hastened after him: 'They' [and he came with the name of indication and dropped the letter of warning because it is not fitting for the speech of Allah. Ibn Hubayrah said: I have not seen anyone from the chosen ones address his Lord in that way. Rather, he addressed it to the disbelievers due to their ignorance.

They said, 'Our Lord, these are our partners whom we used to call upon besides You' [An-Nahl: 86] in similar contexts. As for the end of Az-Zukhruf, he mentioned the expression in its place - 'These' meaning they are close enough to be reached, being 'on my traces' meaning walking on the traces of my walking before they became obscured. I did not precede them except by something that was customary in precedence [like it] among companions. This is based on what he had been commanded regarding them, and he emphasized it upon them: Then he excused himself for his action and said: 'And I hastened' (p-323) I in the initiative 'to You' and it followed the habit of the people of closeness as is right for him. He said: 'My Lord' meaning O You who hasten in rectifying my affair and in rectifying towards me 'to be pleased' with me a pleasure greater than what it was.
