Commentary
And when it was said that whoever possesses these attributes of complete knowledge and power, it might be thought that he has a rival. He negated that by saying, informing that this assumption is certainly false, with no doubt about it, and that what has passed produces certainly: ﴿Allah﴾, beginning with the greatest name that encompasses the attributes of greatness and others. ﴿There is no deity except Him﴾. Then he explained that by saying: ﴿To Him﴾, meaning alone, ﴿are the best names﴾, meaning the attributes of perfection that cannot be tainted by any deficiency. Rather, He is always characterized by them in a true manner that cannot be separated from Him, just as it is for others to be characterized by some virtues at some times, then they may be unable to do so at another time or in relation to another period.
