Commentary
And when the listener longed for what was from Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, at that time, glorified and exalted is He began the news about him by saying: ﴿He said to them﴾ meaning to the people of deceit, who are the magicians and others ﴿Musa﴾ when he saw their gathering, advising them: ﴿Woe to you﴾ O people who Allah created for His worship ﴿Do not fabricate﴾ meaning do not deliberately make a claim of superiority ﴿against Allah falsely﴾ by making His great, established signs into magic that has no reality, and your claim that what you imagine is true and not mere illusion, and your associating partners with Him; (p-304) and it caused him to say: ﴿So He will cause you to perish﴾ meaning He will destroy you; Al-Razi said that its origin is complete eradication ﴿with a punishment﴾ meaning a great one by which your failure will be evident ﴿And certainly failed﴾ is everyone ﴿who fabricated﴾ meaning who deliberately lied against Allah or against others.
