Commentary

And he indicated by the source that is not based on action in his saying: ﴿A revelation﴾ that he takes his time with them out of compassion for them. He does not send down this Qur'an except gradually, to remove their doubts, explain their hearts, calm their souls, and extend the duration of the blessing in them by the frequent visits of the noble angels to them. Just as He did not destroy them for their sins, being satisfied with the evidence of what is in the earlier scriptures, rather He sent to them a Messenger so that they would not say: Our Lord, if only - as His wisdom required and His word was fulfilled. And when their return to the religion was observed from them with severity, pride, and arrogance, which Allah named them as a stubborn people in extreme distance, He, glorified is He, began to remind them of His power, indicating that the hearts are in His hand, He turns them as He wills, just as He shaped them as He willed. And that His affair is gentleness and patience. He said, turning from speaking to addressing the unseen to indicate what the نون necessitated of greatness, presenting what the situation required to be presented of the tranquility of the invited ones, whose reminder is cared for and the guidance of whom is intended -: ﴿Of whom created the earth﴾ the lowly one.

And when He presented the earth, informing of the care for its inhabitants by being gentle with them, to fill it with faith from them, fulfilling the purpose of the surah, honoring [the one to whom it was revealed -], He followed it with the place of descent, in a manner of progression from the House of Glory to what He has stored in the treasury of the Throne, saying: ﴿And the highest heavens﴾ in six days. And if He had willed, they could have been in an instant.
