Commentary
Then he explained the matter of worship by saying that He did not create creation in vain. Rather, there must be their death, then their resurrection to manifest greatness and establish the scales of justice. He said, [emphasizing their denial and expressing what indicates the ease of this matter for him very much]: "Indeed, the Hour is coming," meaning there is no doubt in its coming, for it is the greatest motivator for obedience.
And when the clarification of the reality of a thing, while concealing its person, time, and all its conditions, generally leads to forgetting it and turning away from it, it was not far from its concealment altogether. He said, alluding to this meaning: "I am almost concealing it," [meaning I am closer to renewing its concealment. Therefore, the disbeliever denies it with his tongue and the sinner with his disobedience. The disbeliever does not believe in its existence, and the believer does not prepare for a moment of heedlessness about it.] So watch over me, for the matter will be sudden. There is not a moment except that it is suitable for anticipation. Then he clarified the reason for its coming by saying: "So that every soul may be recompensed" meaning in the easiest and most decisive matter, "for every soul" regardless of who it is, "for what it has earned," meaning what it produces of striving at every moment, just as one does who commands people to act by examining their deeds and rewarding each according to what they deserve.
