Commentary
Then he explained the revealed message with the first of the obligatory matters, which is the knowledge of Allah, the Most High. He said, [emphasizing the greatness of the news and its departure from the ordinary]: "Indeed, I am Allah." He mentioned the proper name because this is its appropriate position, as the most fitting for the one being honored—after being recognized through honor—is to remain in the station of majesty and beauty.
And since this proper name encompasses all the meanings of the Most Beautiful Names, which are exalted beyond being described by them or by any of them in the true sense, it is fitting to follow it with His saying: "There is no deity except Me." And since this necessitates the obligation of dedicating worship solely to Him, He said: "So worship Me," meaning alone. Then He specified among the acts of worship the essence of intimacy and solitude, the sign of submission and vigilance, and the spirit of religion, saying: "And establish the prayer," meaning the one that the evil successors neglected, indicating that it is the primary objective of the religion, as it is the highest of its laws, being a means for vigilance, with what it contains of constant remembrance and turning away from all evil. This is the meaning of "for My remembrance," and this is the most appropriate of matters for the station of majesty. Indeed, it is the unifying factor for the manifestations of beauty and majesty.
