Commentary
He said: His Lord said to him: 'So, like this heinous act you have done in the world.' The meaning is: 'Like what I said was.' Then he explained in the first instance and justified in the second, saying: 'Our signs came to you,' with their greatness which is from Our greatness, 'and you forgot them.' That is, you treated them with your turning away from them, as one treats that which is forgotten, which his owner does not see. You have made yourself blind in sight and insight regarding them, as He, glorified and exalted is He, said: 'Those whose eyes were covered from My remembrance' [Al-Kahf: 101]. 'And likewise,' that is, and like that terrible forgetting, he presented the circumstance to emphasize its importance for understanding. He said: 'Today you will be forgotten,' that is, you will be left in the state you are in, blind and miserable in the Fire, so you will be like something that no one sees or pays attention to.
