Commentary

And when the pleasure of Allah regarding him - with this action in which he hastened to follow the enemy and disobey the guardian with something he has no need for - is very unlikely, Allah, glorified and exalted is He, affirmed that by indicating it with the tool of delay, saying: ﴿Then his Lord chose him﴾, meaning the One who is good to him, ﴿So He accepted his repentance﴾, meaning because of the choosing, by returning to what he was upon from the path of righteousness, ﴿and guided﴾ by safeguarding in that, as is the case with the people of guardianship and closeness.
