Commentary
﴿So he whispered﴾ meaning he followed our warning without delay in time that the devil whispered to him, ﴿to him﴾ the burning and expelled one, and he is Iblis. This means he cast to him the aspect of secrecy by that which We enabled him to flow in this type like blood, and to throw meanings into his heart. It is as if he expressed by 'to' because the situation is to clarify the speed of acceptance of this type of shortcomings even if they come to him from afar, or because he did not convey that to him except by means of his wife. Therefore, he made the action transitive when mentioning them with the preposition 'to.' It is as if it were said: What did he instill into him? It was said: ﴿He said, O Adam﴾. Then he presented to him the deception in the manner of an offer, distancing himself from the accusation and intention. He first enticed him with his saying: ﴿Shall I guide you﴾ for the soul is eager to know what it is ignorant of; and secondly with his saying: ﴿to the tree of eternity﴾ meaning the one from which whoever eats will live forever, for indeed man loves the most to have a long life; and thirdly with his saying: ﴿and a kingdom that does not perish﴾ meaning it does not cease to exist at all. It is as if he said to him in the language of his state or words: Yes, he said: This tree of eternity - pointing to that which he was forbidden - is between you and the everlasting kingdom except that you eat from it.
