Commentary
And when He negated that intercession occurs without His permission, He explained that - as has preceded in the verse of the Throne - by His saying: ﴿He knows what is before them﴾, meaning the creatures [and it is all that they know -] ﴿and what is behind them﴾, and it is all that is hidden from them of His knowledge, meaning His knowledge [glorified and exalted is He] encompasses them. So He prevents their hearts on that day by what He creates of causes from intending what He does not approve of. ﴿And they do not encompass Him in knowledge﴾, so that they may guard against what He decrees upon them. And ﴿knowledge﴾ is a distinguishing term transferred from the doer. (p-349) [That is -] and their knowledge does not encompass Him - said Abu Hayyan. And the closest to me is that it is transferred from the object that the action has affected with the preposition, meaning and they do not encompass His knowledge, so that would be closer to what is in the verse of the Throne.
