Commentary
And when it was established what is for the voices from the lowering, and it had been indicated previously to the occurrence of intercession from some of His special ones by His permission, and the gathering for reckoning was in the context of bringing some closer and distancing others. It was customary that the one brought close intercedes for the one distanced, due to the connections and causes that necessitate that among the people of gathering. And the disbelievers claimed that their deities intercede for them. He said, negating that intercession could occur without His permission, and magnifying that day with a warning from Him, time after time: "On that Day" (meaning when what has preceded occurs) "intercession will not benefit" meaning there will be no intercession that will have benefit, because it has been established previously that there is no voice. And it was established in the verification of the limited from the knowledge of the scale that the true negation does not necessitate the existence of the subject outside of it. Rather, He transformed the expression because the intended purpose is the benefit. Thus, the negation of it from the very beginning is more severe, and the striking of the hearing with it first is more terrifying and frightening. "Except" meaning except the intercession of "whoever is permitted by the Most Merciful" the All-Bountiful, "and He is pleased with his saying" even if it is mere faith.
