And when he informed about some of what has passed, then about some of what will come regarding the conditions of those who turn away from this reminder in what their turning away from it produces for them, and he concluded that by shortening their duration of remaining in this abode, he informed about some of their conditions in turning away and said: ﴿And they ask you about the mountains, what will be their state on the Day when the trumpet is blown?﴾ Doubting from them about resurrection, standing with the illusion that they will be existent based on the measure of their stagnation, certainly, because it is the strongest of things, and the longest in duration, and the farthest in remaining. It prevents some people from hearing the blowing of the trumpet, and it misleads some, due to the returning air carrying the sound, that it is coming from another direction, so the intention does not align with the caller. ﴿Say﴾, meaning he caused it to be known by our knowledge that they are asking you this question, that we say to you: Say, or it could be on the condition that if they ask you, then say to them, [and] this is in contrast to what was revealed after the occurrence of the question about it, such as the soul [and] the story of Dhul-Qarnayn, for the matter is in answering it in the manner of resuming what is there from the inclination of the soul towards the answer. ﴿It will obliterate it﴾, meaning it will uproot it from its places and scatter it in the air. ﴿My Lord﴾, the One who is gracious to me by granting me victory on the Day of Resurrection, a victory that cannot be comprehended. ﴿Obliterating﴾ at the first blowing.
