75(O Muslims) do you still fancy that they will believe you, although a group of them used to hear the word of Allah, and then, having understood it, used to distort it knowingly?

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, clarified that their hearts have become veiled due to the abundance of sins and the continuous boldness against their Creator, being covered by a thick rust, to the extent that they are harder than stones, this resulted in their distance from faith. He turned to the believers, giving them despair regarding their success, as a consolation for the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, concerning what he was intensely eager for, which was their faith, in the context of mocking them and reproaching them, denying any hope for their faith after it was established that their disbelief had recurred. He said: "Do you then hope?" And hope is the attachment of the mind to something without a preceding cause for it. "That they will believe," meaning these who are among you, and you have heard what has befallen their ancestors from the density of disbelief, and they are content with that; otherwise, they would have believed merely upon this news about these stories from this unlettered Prophet, from whom it is confirmed that there is no one who knows about it except Allah, acknowledging: "For you, and indeed," meaning while it is the case that there was a group, meaning people who seek division and scattering from them.
