So We said, due to the greatness that belongs to Us, "Strike him with a part of the cow." And he implied the mention of the cow and did not show evidence of the unity of this first part of the story, which was made second by the part that preceded it, in that they are one story. He said, "with a part of it." Imam Abu Ali al-Farisi said in the Book of Evidence: We said, "Strike the slain with a part of the cow," so they struck him with it and he came back to life. This means that the evidence for this omitted part is His saying, "Thus," meaning like this great revival in this strange form, "Allah gives life to the dead," meaning the One who has the attributes of perfection. This is like this revival that was indicated and witnessed. It is narrated that when they struck him, he stood up and said: "So-and-so and so-and-so killed me for the sons of his uncle," then he fell down dead. So they were taken and killed, and no killer was inherited after that. This miracle, as our Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, informed, was the arm of the poisoned sheep, that it was poisoned when the Jewish woman who was among her people named it. This verse was made a reminder of the resurrection in their stories, for it is among the greatest evidence for it. And what occurred from them was such that they could be counted as deniers, which is their saying to the polytheists: "Your religion is better than the religion of Muhammad," or that this is a reminder intended to urge the Arabs to ask those whom they sought advice from regarding the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, due to their being the people of the first knowledge. Thus, it is obligatory for them to believe in resurrection or to believe in the falsehood of the Jews. He expressed it with the proper name because giving life is among the most specific signs of divinity, just as providing sustenance is among the most specific signs of lordship. "And He shows you His signs" in what testifies to its truth, "so that perhaps you may understand," meaning so that you may, by seeing those signs that testify to Him, hope that you will gain understanding that guides you to believe in resurrection and other matters that the messengers inform about Allah, the Exalted.
