And when they repented from the worship of the calf, which they were bound to in the tangible, which is an example of ignorance, they sought to see their Creator with the senses, despite His attributes of perfection that reject being perceived. They forgot all the blessings and calamities, hastening towards disbelief, which is the state of the confused, while the criterion that leaves no doubt and does not allow confusion stands before them. This is because they are in a state of rigidity and standing with illusion and the senses in a great place. So, He reminded them, glorified and exalted is He, of that, comforting the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in their rejection of faith in Him, due to what they did with Moses, may peace be upon him, who is one of them. He said: "And when you said"; meaning after you saw the signs and witnessed the clear matters, "O Moses"; you called him by his name with rudeness and harshness, just as some of you call one another, and you did not honor him with what indicates his greatness due to what you saw of Allah's honoring him and your honoring through him. "We will never believe in you"; and this is a word that implies the negation of a hidden meaning, as if it were "not to"; it is easy in its expression - as said by al-Harali. "We will believe you"; meaning for the sake of your words. Al-Harali said: And he came with the preposition 'for' because they had believed in him, then they hesitated about the faith that relates to matters of the details of what he brings to them. So whoever believes for someone has believed in matters for his sake, and whoever believes in him has accepted the essence of his message. "Believes in Allah and believes for the believers" [At-Tawbah: 61]; "until" is a word that implies a definitive limit, entering what follows it into the ruling of what precedes it, contrary to the meaning of "so that". "We see"; from seeing, which is an insight into the essence of the thing that has been manifested, the observer of it has shown it from its appearance. It is said in the beginning of a dream: vision, because the entities of what is seen in the dream are examples of its essence in the form of what is observed in wakefulness. Ended. "Allah"; meaning with what He has of greatness. "Openly"; meaning visibly without concealment or ambiguity. Al-Harali said: From the openness, which is the announcement of the thing to the extent of fame and its reaching those who are not intended in contrast to the secret that is specific to those who are intended by it. And this request is from what is not fitting for openness to achieve its specificity with those to whom the veil is lifted from the elite of those who possess it, from the elite of those who respond to the call, from the elite of those who turn away from it. So how can that be requested openly until it reaches one who is in a state of distance and rejection! And in it is a testimony to their dullness regarding the place of vision, for Moses, may peace be upon him, said.
'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' "My Lord, show me" [Al-A'raf: 143] And He, the Most High, said, "Faces on that Day will be radiant" [Al-Qiyamah: 22] "Looking at their Lord" [Al-Qiyamah: 23] And he, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Indeed, you will see your Lord." The name mentioned in the meaning of seeing is indeed the Lord, because in the name of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, there is the unseen which is not mentioned for its sake except with what is a loss, not with what is in the meaning of gain. This is for a secret among the secrets of knowledge regarding the locations of the meanings of the beautiful names in what is appropriate for them from types of discourse, states, and actions. It is among the noblest of knowledge by which the discourse of the Qur'an is understood, so that what is most relevant in its meaning and most deserving of it is added to each name, even if all the names refer to meanings that are related to one another. "So the punishment seized you" from taking, which is the grasping of a thing in its entirety with a type of force and strength. This is the end. That is, for your saying this due to what is in it of horror and violation of sanctity. "The thunderbolt" It is said: it is a cry, and it is said: it is a fire that descended from the sky and burned them. This is supported by His saying: "And you were looking on" meaning that thunderbolt, so it killed you, because you were in your quest for seeing Him in a manner similar to the state of the worshippers of the calf. So it killed you as it killed them by the act of killing.
