Commentary

﴿Those who think﴾ from the thought which is a predominance in belief while there remains an opponent from the opposite side - this was said by al-Harali. ﴿That they will meet their Lord﴾ (p-343) meaning the Benefactor towards them. He expressed by thought about knowledge to downplay the matter and to alert that it is enough for the wise in urging to adhere to obedience in the thought of meeting the Sovereign, the obeyed, the hoped for, the feared. So how about the matter being certain with no dispute in it and no room for doubt in it! It is permissible that the thought of death is intended at every moment. For when it is on the mind of a person, it necessitates for him happiness. And when this sentence indicates, along with the intimidation, to those of high aspirations, nobility, and zeal from falling into that which entails a defect or leads to blame, it leads to shyness from the Benefactor who has never ceased His benefaction for a moment of time. He increased in intimidation by saying: ﴿And that they will return to Him﴾ meaning alone ﴿Returning﴾ and the return is the destination of the one who has gone back to the paths of his creed and his elevation on the ranks of his descent, this was said by al-Harali. He expressed this even though they are still in His grasp, for His apparent name, glorified and exalted is He, will be in that abode due to the cessation of causes in the utmost appearance. There will be no type of appearance with anyone along with Him at all, unlike this abode where the predominant meaning of His hidden name is only with the possessors of insight; and in the verse is a rebuke for the people of the Book that despite their certainty of resurrection, they grow weary of the actions of one who does not consider it a virtue over what he knows. And al-Harali said: And when there is in prayer a conversation with Allah about the unseen; it is only facilitated for one who thinks of acceptance which he feels with the meeting of his Lord after his death. And that is the state of one whose belief in the Hereafter outweighs the worldly life in his actions and state. Thus, his state and actions are the state of one who thinks, preserving the states of those below the rank of certainty. The intended meeting is not the resurrection because they are among those who believe in resurrection, but it is from the meaning of acceptance after resurrection. And in it is an indication of the state of death and the Day of Barzakh, which is the first recompense. So he connected it to the other return after resurrection. End.
