Commentary
And when it was the right of the one who opposed the master to take, this is indicated by his saying: ﴿So if you do not do﴾ meaning to leave usury. Al-Harali said: It implies that a group among them will not abandon it after its prohibition because they are not among those who were believers. End.
﴿So announce a war﴾ meaning a great one. Al-Harali said: And war is a strong defense against expansion, the defender seeks to repel what requires leaving it and does not allow it and defends against it with the utmost ability; then he magnified the matter by mentioning the greatest name, saying: ﴿from Allah﴾ the Great and Majestic ﴿and His Messenger﴾ blessings and peace be upon him, who is the greatest of creation by being honored with the addition to Him. And Al-Harali said: He who prepared him for mercy, so the Prophet of mercy was waging war against him, thus his connection was severed from the Merciful and the Intercessor. End.
﴿And if you repent﴾ meaning you did what Allah commanded you to do by leaving what remains of it after the permission for fighting or before it ﴿then for you are the heads of your wealth﴾ meaning as is the case in sales. And when this is the justice because it is the truth, he said: ﴿Do not wrong yourselves﴾ meaning by taking anything from what remains of usury ﴿and you will not be wronged﴾ by a decrease from the principal or by payment with demands because it is the truth.
