And when the result of the previous verse was in relying on what is with Allah, glorified and exalted is He, of reward and not grieving over what has passed of usury and others, and the fear of something that is coming, whether poverty or otherwise, he left everything that is attributed to usury. There were transactions among the people of Islam and the people of ignorance, and among some of them, there were usurious transactions in ignorance that had not yet been completed. He clarified its matter, negating what might be imagined from his previous saying, "So for him is what has passed" [Al-Baqarah: 275], from the permissibility of the remnants of usury and that the prohibition is specific to what has renewed of it. He said, addressing the closest of those he mentioned, from those who have embraced faith and have not turned to others, honoring them: "O you who have believed," meaning those who have acknowledged the truthfulness with their tongues. And when usury may be deferred, its possessor may have had periods pass while he is determined to take it, so refraining from it becomes equivalent to death for him.
